Hello,

it is strange but I can't find any thread about the jpg quality on the forum.

So the quality of the K2 image is very poor. We upload a 60% quality compression jpeg file in the image tab (in K2 article), but the image generated by k2 is very very poor and bad...

So what can we do to fix it, and increase image quality ?

Thank you.

Regard

Hi,
At the parameters settings of K2 at Images tab you can set the quality of the jpg images. This field is labeled Quality (%) used when processing images

yes, but the problem is that the parameters is set to 70%, and deliver a image in poor quality...

But you can see below the image from K2 (at 70% !!)

and second same image at 60% compression from photoshop (wich is really really better)

prefjugies4-k2-compression.jpg - 20.9 Ko

prefjugies4-photoshop.jpg - 39.3 Ko

So why is it happening ?

Regard.

Yes of course.
And I also tried a png image @150dpi. Same very bad result.

But this not the first time. More often the image is bad.

So what is the solution ???!

Hello,

PHP processing has its limits, the GD library needs a value of 80 - 85% to produce high quality images.

If you are using logos where image processing is not needed, you can swap K2's image with an extrafield.

Sorry I don't understand your answer :-(

You say that

the GD library need 80-85%

(1) What is the GD library ?

(2) and so the solution is to put minimum 80% in the parameter ?
I made some test. 90% appears to be good.

(3) for the tests, is there a way to simply renew the images in the cache ?
If I deleted the cache, the image disappears from the article. So I need to reintroduce image in each article (an image'll be "reingenerate")...!

(4.1) when you said

If you are using logos where image processing is not needed, you can swap K2's image with an extrafield.

Using logo where image image processing....? Which logo ? I don't use logo..just images here.

(4.2) how can I swap image with extrafiled ? And why swapping images (what is the interest) ?

Sorry but I need to understand to fix the problem.

Thank you very much.

Regard.

Krikor means to set the Quality (%) used when processing images option to a value of 80% or greater. Mind also the values you have enter at option fields Item xx image width (in px) in relation with the original image size of the uploaded file.

Can you double check that the correct image size is being used?
Did you reupload the image?
As I have already told you, PHP image processing and GD in particular has some flaws (it is a 3rd party library we are not responsible for that library).

If you are uploading logos where no compression should be made or images that png format is preferred, then you can tweak your template to show an extrafield image instead of the value of an image. You can use this code as a starting point -> github.com/kricore/Advanced-templating-with-K2/blob/master/_inc/cheatsheet.php#L77-L82

Hi

I have the same issue and the cause isn't about PHP GD library.
The problem is : when you set width in K2 image tab, K2 insert just CSS command and image is smaller than it.

For example I set 2000px for full style but in frontend k2 makes 850px image + (width:2000px css) and result is bad experience for user. Even I uploaded again high quality image in article.

The interesting point is I don't even have 850px value in k2 image tab setting!
Maybe it's a bug.

I never found a solution!

Since 2 years I'm on WordPress now.
And it is so better, and you can compress with a lot of parameters.

@rastchin Somewhere, something is enforcing that width. Could be the general setting for that image size, a direct category or an inherited category... Please open a new post if you need further assistance.

@piet Actually WP is worse, cause image sizes can be set in the theme as well, leading to GBs of unused images...
