URL rewriting was created by Al[bert] L[ouis] Rossi
Hello,

I'm having a little difficulty tracking down the cause of an issue on my site.

I have followed the instructions for SEO Friendly URLS and URL rewriting:

1. I have edited the .htaccess file (I actually had to do this through the site specific editor)
2. I have selected the options under SEO Settings in the Global Configuration.

Previous to that, I did the little test using the redirect to the joomla.html home page, and it worked. So rewrite is indeed enabled on the site.

However, the URLs I am continuing to see look like this:

<domain>/component/k2/item/<id>-<alias>

instead of

<domain>/<category>/<alias>

This actually caused a problem with a plugin I purchased (Monthly Archive). I hacked their php to work, thinking the problem was with their code. But evidently it isn't (I am still learning the ins and outs of CMSs ... so I was not aware that the URL above was funky).

Could anyone here help me troubleshoot this issue? Is it, do you think, a problem with the template? Where would I look to fix it? (i.e., which .php file?)

Thanks for any suggestions,

Al Rossi

P.S. I also cleared all the caches.

Hello,

There is no need to edit the htaccess file.

Please read this post.

Hi Krikor,

Creating the menus for the categories worked like a dream.

I also discovered you can get rid of the "item" sub-path and item id using the Advanced SEF Settings.

However, I am still seeing component/k2 for two things: clicking on a tag from the tag cloud K2 Tools module, and clicking on a user from the home page. If I click the tags or users attached to the item page, or to some other SP page, all is well.

Any suggestions as to how to fix this?

Thanks again, Al

You can either use K2's advanced SEF settings or create an empty K2 categories menu (leave the category selection empty) and call it eg: content, to handle all orphan users and tags.

Well, I had tried this before, it didn't seem to work, but I must have configured the menu incorrectly, because I just retried it, and it works.

Thanks again, Al
