I am looking to use K2 to create a custom content type from front-end use. However I already use community builder to restrict access to specific resources. Is it possible to use community builder to login and restrict access to K2 categories or must I import all users to K2?

Hello,

It depends, if you are using Joomla!'s ACL on your menus and K2 categories then there is nothing really to do.
However if you want to add restrictions like front-end editing or commenting, you will need to use K2's User Groups.

Is that compatible with community builder? I see posts that k2 and community builder are no longer compatible.

The integration (avatars and profile page) has been removed from the core, however the functionality you are looking for is related to Joomla!'s ACL.
