HI, after upgrading Joomla 3.6.2 to 3.6.3 I get this error when I want to edit a k2 article or make a new one.

0 Error decoding JSON data: Control character error, possibly incorrectly encoded

Where do I look for this? Is there an update for it?

Which file is throwing that error?

I am asking this because I cannot reproduce this behaviour using K2 2.7.1 and 2.7.2 DEV build.

It is possible that a 3rd party K2 extension is causing this issue.

I use a template from Gavick, and I do not use any thirdparty k2 extensions. I only enabled K2 and K2 system plugin and the problem still is there.

Would it help to download a fresh copy of K2 and install it again without losing stuff? Maybe a specific file is corrupt ?

You can try installing the DEV version github.com/getk2/k2

This is a message from Robert Gavick. However, the php version I use is NOT PHP 7.0+, I use PHP 5.5.32.

I do not have any clue with this and I'm pretty f*cked if this can't be solved.

1. There’s no error found in the error_log file.
2. There’s no k2 third party plugin activated
3. I’ve disabled completely K2 overriden files from TechNews template and the problem still occurs

Additional informations:
I’ve noticed that the problem occurs only on the server with PHP 7.0.x (with PHP 5.6.x there’s no problem).
K2 v.2.7.0 works properly
K2 v.2.7.1 and dev version 2.7.2 don’t work.

Hi Alex, do you use a gavick template or something? Maybe we can check our similarities?

I am on 7.0.10 and I cannot verify the issue with 2.7.1 and 2.7.2
I can see the same issue on Github github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/issues/12460 which means that is probably a core issue unrelated to K2.

Bug found, it's tiny MCE. Switch to none or a third party editor like JCE and we are all set.

Not actually a core issue but an issue with multiple variants such as incorrect plugin parameters and varius was for an incorrect json formated string saved in the database.
On github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/issues/12460

For a permanent sollution check the message github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/issues/12460#issuecomment-256219685
in order to actually find what parameter throws the errror and fix it. In my case it was com_users parameters so i (hacked joomla , re saved the users Settings and restored the joomla code, voilla no more errors).

I had another site and discovered that the problem is because of the metadata that is migrated from an older site.

I removed it from the aricles in the database and voila.
