On another thread about this topic was a link to an extension that allows a K2 item to be assigned to multiple categories. In fact there are two solutions - one free, one paid, but they take different approaches. I am seeking the advice of which solution is a better one considering longterm support and compatibility?

The first (free) is extensions.joomla.org/extension/additional-categories-for-k2/
I understand this solution adds its own category selection field.

The second applies a patch to K2 (dvlancer.com/k2-multi-category-patch-installer.html)
I understand this solution modifies K2 to add the multiple category selection option.

Which is a more robust approach? Is there a better solution?
