I notice that K2 resizes images on the spot. It uploads the full image to the media folder and uses that image to resize the images to the width it wants.
Is it possible to resize the images directly to a certain width, and to use that as a source image?

You can set the width for the available sizes in K2's settings.
Furthermore you can select the width you want to use in the category's settings.
