This is aimed for developers, not simple users.
In case someone needs this: github.com/afonic/rimage-k2
Thanks.

A very nice project. Looking forward to a stable 'production ready' version.

Thanks for your replies!
Basically, it works very well, you can see it live at www.istionluxuryyachts.com/ (all the images in that website are generated using it).
But the idea is that only developers (as in website agencies or freelancers) should use this as support is not provided. Of course it will be enhanced a lot, since we would like to use it in more clients, especially in responsive websites that need different sets of images. Keep track of the Github issues to see what gets fixed and when.
Cheers!

Imagemagick implemented with commit
363c6a4
.
Interestingly, Imagemagick generates images with much richer colors, closer to the original.
Note that this update also changed some IDs in the params, so if you're using this, the configuration will be deleted.

Imagemagick is considered in many ways better than GD.
Kudos for implementing this.

I've had some time to update this.
New features:
As always, use at your own risk: github.com/afonic/rimage-k2
New features:
- You can now reorder a gallery! Much needed for those using SIGPRO.
- Added an option to keep aspect ratio and resize by the image's long edge (do not crop)
- You can now force regenerate a K2 item's images (item & gallery) by the click of a single button.
- Added an option to include items in subcategories of a selected category.
- Png, gif images are now handled (but converted to jpegs)
As always, use at your own risk: github.com/afonic/rimage-k2
