Unwanted Link K2/itemlist/user/ was created by Mick
I have found an unwanted link to some content on my website in a Google search. The link is:

https://[BANKED UNUSED DOMAIN]/index.php/component/k2/itemlist/user/[SUPER USER ID AND NAME]?start=60

It has used a domain I own but has never been used but diverts to our server root public_html. The user name and ID is mine.

I have read a number of search results for K2/itemlist/user but none have a solution that answers how to remove or disable this link. Google won't remove it because the items are still current and published on the proper website.

I have been through all Menu items (including Trashed and unpublished), modules and plugins but can't find any that would support this link.

I have checked all the categories for the items displayed and all have Author and Voting hidden, but accessing them through this link shows Author name and Voting link in K2 items regardless.

Any ideas on how to disable this link?

Thanks

You can either use K2's advanced sef functionality or better yet if you are using a few users you can map these users into a K2 User menu item.

Sorry, I don't understand your reply. Perhaps I wasn't clear about the issue.

Somehow Google is showing a link to some of my website content linked to me as the User. It is also using a parked domain, which auto diverts to our live domain. The link is using a K2 Item List reference that doesn't exist in any menu item (published, hidden or trashed).

So the question is how has the link "/index.php/component/k2/itemlist/user/[SUPER USER ID AND NAME]?start=60" been generated? How do I prevent it being used and block it?

By default all of Joomla!'s URLs can be hacked eg: ?
option=com_content&view=xx&id=xx will produce results.

This means that if a (default) link is exposed by mistake then it can be picked by Google.

You can easily solve this issue either by setting redirects or by using a canonical link extension which supports K2.

Hello Krikor,
We have also been notified by a customer that Google is picking up and indexing these types of pages. We use K2 a lot on all our builds and I did a quick search and it seems like this is happening to a lot of our websites. Can I get you to show me in more detail how this is occurring and how we can combat this? The above explanation does not make sence to me. Thank you for your help!! I can PM you the links we are talking about if you need to see them in the real world.
Thank you!!

Make sure you're using a recent K2 version, preferably the latest. Then in the K2 component settings disable user page viewing for users with no K2 items.

Good afternoon, Fotis!
I write to the English community because there was no Greek.
I have the same problem!
K2 creates an unbelievably large number with url when the user elements are present in the articles.

an example

assuming we have a news website with 10 categories and each category has 200 articles
The effect we will present is over to 50.000 url with author/name?start=

All pages are traceable to Google. so that the articles on the site do not appear in the search results
I don't really know what to do to fix it

You can just block /itemlist/user/ in your robots.txt file.

I highly disagree that K2 has SEO issues. I guess you've missed the recent changes since v2.10.0...

I will show you a very small example.
I have countless to show you from dozens of sites with k2
I will be really grateful if you can solve this problem for me

I have an article
for example
adapokrites.gr/xronomixani-2/polynekres-enoples-epitheseis-ipa

if I copy copy the title in google it should logically take me to the first page with the url of the article

adapokrites.gr/kosmos/eidiseis/nea/%CE%95%CE%A0%CE%99%CE%98%CE%95%CE%A3%CE%95%CE%99%CE%A3

but it takes me to the third page with the specific result

ΕΠΙΘΕΣΕΙΣ - Adapokrites
adapokrites.gr › kosmos › eidiseis › nea › ΕΠΙΘΕΣΕΙΣ

www.google.com/search?q=%CE%9F%CE%B9+%CF%80%CE%B9%CE%BF+%CF%80%CE%BF%CE%BB%CF%8D%CE%BD%CE%B5%CE%BA%CF%81%CE%B5%CF%82+%CE%AD%CE%BD%CE%BF%CF%80%CE%BB%CE%B5%CF%82+%CE%B5%CF%80%CE%B9%CE%B8%CE%AD%CF%83%CE%B5%CE%B9%CF%82+%CF%84%CF%89%CE%BD+%CF%84%CE%B5%CE%BB%CE%B5%CF%85%CF%84%CE%B1%CE%AF%CF%89%CE%BD+30+%CE%B5%CF%84%CF%8E%CE%BD+%CF%83%CF%84%CE%B9%CF%82+%CE%97%CE%A0%CE%91&oq=%CE%9F%CE%B9+%CF%80%CE%B9%CE%BF+%CF%80%CE%BF%CE%BB%CF%8D%CE%BD%CE%B5%CE%BA%CF%81%CE%B5%CF%82+%CE%AD%CE%BD%CE%BF%CF%80%CE%BB%CE%B5%CF%82+%CE%B5%CF%80%CE%B9%CE%B8%CE%AD%CF%83%CE%B5%CE%B9%CF%82+%CF%84%CF%89%CE%BD+%CF%84%CE%B5%CE%BB%CE%B5%CF%85%CF%84%CE%B1%CE%AF%CF%89%CE%BD+30+%CE%B5%CF%84%CF%8E%CE%BD+%CF%83%CF%84%CE%B9%CF%82+%CE%97%CE%A0%CE%91&aqs=chrome..69i57&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

the reason is as follows
there are hundreds of orls that contain this passage
adapokrites.gr/media-news/nea/%CE%A7%CE%A1%CE%9F%CE%9D%CE%9F%CE%9C%CE%97%CE%A7%CE%91%CE%9D%CE%97

adapokrites.gr/kosmos/eidiseis/nea/%CE%A7%CE%A1%CE%9F%CE%9D%CE%9F%CE%9C%CE%97%CE%A7%CE%91%CE%9D%CE%97

adapokrites.gr/kosmos/eidiseis/nea/%CE%95%CE%A0%CE%99%CE%98%CE%95%CE%A3%CE%95%CE%99%CE%A3

even in articles

adapokrites.gr/texnes/mousiki/the-f-virus-o-pragmatikos-ios-einai-o-fovos/nea/%CE%A7%CE%A1%CE%9F%CE%9D%CE%9F%CE%9C%CE%97%CE%A7%CE%91%CE%9D%CE%97

in users
adapokrites.gr/xronomixani-2/author/12-pressroom/nea/%CE%A7%CE%A1%CE%9F%CE%9D%CE%9F%CE%9C%CE%97%CE%A7%CE%91%CE%9D%CE%97

and we're talking about a site with 50,000 articles and 5,000 tags

Do you understand how many thousands of voids url has been detected by Google and ranked me accordingly

Google ranks your site(s) based on various factors, but the most important ones are:
a) Original content (obviously)
b) How well your HTML is structured, in other words, how easily crawl-able it is. If you enabled Google Structured Data (GSD) in the SEO tab of K2's Settings, this significantly helps.
c) Performance, how fast your site loads, both server-side and client-side.

Regarding your specific examples, if you search using a private window (so the results are not filtered by your browsing preferences) for this www.google.com/search?q=%CE%9F%CE%B9+%CF%80%CE%B9%CE%BF+%CF%80%CE%BF%CE%BB%CF%8D%CE%BD%CE%B5%CE%BA%CF%81%CE%B5%CF%82+%CE%AD%CE%BD%CE%BF%CF%80%CE%BB%CE%B5%CF%82+%CE%B5%CF%80%CE%B9%CE%B8%CE%AD%CF%83%CE%B5%CE%B9%CF%82+%CF%84%CF%89%CE%BD+%CF%84%CE%B5%CE%BB%CE%B5%CF%85%CF%84%CE%B1%CE%AF%CF%89%CE%BD+30+%CE%B5%CF%84%CF%8E%CE%BD+%CF%83%CF%84%CE%B9%CF%82+%CE%97%CE%A0%CE%91 your site comes up on the 4th page and it links to the first page of the category "ΕΠΙΘΕΣΕΙΣ": adapokrites.gr/kosmos/eidiseis/nea/%CE%95%CE%A0%CE%99%CE%98%CE%95%CE%A3%CE%95%CE%99%CE%A3

Which seems normal. A category page can be more popular than an item page.

If you want to be more specific, you need to use double quotes surrounding an item title, e.g.: www.google.com/search?q=%22%CE%9E%CE%B5%CE%BA%CE%B1%CF%81%CE%B4%CE%B9%CF%83%CF%84%CE%B9%CE%BA%CE%AE+%CE%B5%CF%80%CE%AF%CE%B8%CE%B5%CF%83%CE%B7+%CE%BC%CE%B1%CF%8A%CE%BC%CE%BF%CF%8D%CF%82+%CF%83%CE%B5+%CE%B1%CE%BD%CF%85%CF%80%CE%BF%CF%88%CE%AF%CE%B1%CF%83%CF%84%CE%BF+%CF%80%CE%B5%CF%81%CE%B1%CF%83%CF%84%CE%B9%CE%BA%CF%8C%22&oq=%22%CE%9E%CE%B5%CE%BA%CE%B1%CF%81%CE%B4%CE%B9%CF%83%CF%84%CE%B9%CE%BA%CE%AE+%CE%B5%CF%80%CE%AF%CE%B8%CE%B5%CF%83%CE%B7+%CE%BC%CE%B1%CF%8A%CE%BC%CE%BF%CF%8D%CF%82+%CF%83%CE%B5+%CE%B1%CE%BD%CF%85%CF%80%CE%BF%CF%88%CE%AF%CE%B1%CF%83%CF%84%CE%BF+%CF%80%CE%B5%CF%81%CE%B1%CF%83%CF%84%CE%B9%CE%BA%CF%8C%22

This will reveal your site in the 1st page of results, as 3rd result (direct URL to the item). Which is also normal (being 3rd), because the given item's title resembles that of other higher-ranked sites compared to yours (this usually indicates content that is not the source).

So all in all, I don't see any issues in regards to content crawling, for a site that may have not used GSD in the past. I see it's now enabled though which is a plus.

Additionally, make sure you add your site to the Google Search Console so you can monitor crawling issues.

If you can't do anything about the site's server-side performance (I see it's on Plesk with Nginx as proxy to Apache - which probably doesn't really do much unless you cache a few things on Nginx's side), you should:
a) focus on well structured menus and content (your HTML)
b) enforce tag normalization (e.g. make all tags lowercase or uppercase by default, regardless of what editors input as tags) to avoid duplicate tags because the case is different
c) do the trick I've mentioned before in this forum to enforce all tag, user and other links that are autogenerated to be mapped to a "root" K2 URL. If you don't already have such a menu item for K2 (one that points to all K2 categories), create one in a hidden menu and give it a generic alias (e.g. "content"). Then in the SEO settings of K2 enable "Advanced SEF URLs", clear your caches and check e.g. your tag URLs.

Also keep in mind that K2 will create duplicate tag URLs because this is how Joomla's URL router works by default.

Try the above and let me know.

It would be great to have a telephone call if this is possible.
I work professionally with the Joomla and K2 since 2007.
It would be my pleasure to share my experiences with you.
