K2 viewing access level issue

I'm trying to protect viewing access to a particular K2 item so that a client can review it.
I'd like the article to be not viewable by the public, but when the client logs in, they can view it.
Here's what I've done:
1. Created a new group under Registered > Partners > ClientName
2. Created a new Access Level called ClientName, and add groups ClientName and Super Users.
I've gone and assigned the K2 item's viewing access level to ClientName.
When I go to the category list of items, this particular item doesn't show at all for me (Super User) nor the client user (whom I did add to the ClientName group.)
If I change the K2 item back to Special, I can see it as Super User.
What have I done wrong? This seems straightforward but it just doesn't work.
Some things:
K2 category listing is a menu item with access level Public. Registered > Partners > ClientName is under the umbrella of Public though.
Do K2 user groups factor into this at all? It seems they don't.
Thanks.

This is a really outdated version and several years old. It is good to hear that it still works with recent versions of Joomla! but issues like this have been resolved in recent versions.
Did you add two usergroups as "ClientName" ?
Can you share a screenshot of your settings?

It's running on Joomla 3.1.5, so not exactly a recent version of Joomla either.
Was this a documented bug? Or should K2 be expected to obey Joomla ACL?
I only added one user group in Joomla called ClientName, and one access level called ClientName which includles the ClientName user group.
As an experiment I also made a K2 user group called Clientname, but there doesn't seem to be any way to apply it to a specific article item. Only the Joomla ACL are shown for viewing.

I am not sure that I can assist with such obsolete software.
I would suggest creating new groups under the "Registered" group.

Turns out, it works as advertised. I had added the new groups as children of Registered, but the client user was only a member of the child groups, and NOT Registered. This is what caused the issue. However it's written, not being a member of the parent group prevents viewing access.
Are you the author of K2?
