I get the following error when clicking on k2 item:

0 Call to undefined function mb_regex_encoding()

I copied existing item and edited it - very simple file.

J! - 3.8.10
k2 - 2.8.1

Please advise.

This is a server setup related issue.
A necessary PHP module has not been installed. You need to ask your hosting provide to install the PHP Multibytes extension.
