Clickable categories and subcategories was created by Selejan Ovidiu
Hi guys,

I am in the process of designing the plan for a content heavy website using K2 (I do not see another solution).

The idea is the following:

a) We will have around 70 main categories
b) Each category, will have from 5 to 40 subcategories
c) Each subcategory will have up to 5 short articles in it (this is the actual content).

The idea is the following: on the landing page we will list all the categories (one word each). When clinking on a category, a list with subcategories will open, and you can select one item from the list and the sample texts are opening.

I am wondering if in K2 I can use categories only as links to subcategories, and the same for subcategories to topics.

Please see the attached schematic for further clarifications.

Many thanks in advance,
O.

Yes, it's possible. There's an option to enable "catalog mode" in K2's category settings. Like this: demo.getk2.org/catalog

The only difference in that URL is that all categories, even the top-level ones, have items in them, so we basically show the sub-categories and then right below that any items directly belonging to the currently displayed category. If your items belong to categories at the very end of the category tree, then you'll navigate from category to sub-categories until you end up in the deeper category where items actually exist.

You should also create one master category for your catalog and have all its subcategories inherit the master category's settings (so you don't set the settings for every child category).
