item images disappeared after update to 2.10.1 was created by Franz Heine

after the update from 2.10.0 to 2.10.1 my item images disappeared.
The category setting are the same. The images still are in the folder: media/k2/items/cache/

But ive to confess. I compressed the cached images (regarding image size) with photoshop and because i just needed one size of the pictures (L), i erased the other 5 sizes.

Could this be the issue?

Yes, because unlike previous versions, we check for the existence of the "generic" size and based on that construct the URLs for the other sizes. That's 5 less disk I/O operations per image, which may be considerable on large sites.

I recommend not tampering with K2 files.

what does it mean:

Execute via Terminal?

Does he mean curl?

How can i execute the rebuild.php?

You need SSH (terminal) access to your server. If you have that, you simply execute the script with "php /path/to/script".

unfortunately i dont have SSH access. Is there another option to run the script?

Solved it!

If you dont have SSH, just copy rebuild.php to the root and call it over the browser. For ex:

yourdomain.com/rebuild.php

After success the result is displayed in the browser.

Important: Erase after the rebuild the rebuild.php from your server

Sure, it works, but you need to disable any timeouts. Plus, you won't get any progress feedback...

Hi Fotis,

I have updated k2 from 2.8.0 to 2.10.3 and my images are also disappeared. I have tried to run rebuild.php from browser but nothing happen also I have notice one thing that in the rebuild.php file all the image extensions are jpg but my all the item images are in the png so I have to change in rebuild file to replace jpg with png? or need to do something else? please help

This means you modified core K2 files at some point, so when you updated K2 you lost these changes. I can't possibly know what these were, so you'll have to find out on your own what you changed then in order to change it again.

I have not modified any core files. I have tried by uploading one image and everything working fine.

I have got the issue. My old images are saved as png but new image code is written for jpg only. if I upload an image in item k2 saved it as jpg but my old images are in png. what to do now? we can't use png images in new version of k2?

K2 has never saved its own images in the PNG format, ever since it was introduced in the Joomla community way back in 2009.
