Email in comments was created by Sorin Popa
Hello,

I want to make a suggestion about the email field in the comments.

I do not think that this field is so necessary and especially to be required because site Administrators do not need the email of those who comment and those who comment are reluctant to give their email to a site just to comment.

In order for this field to be removed, files must be overridden and the core component hacked...

It would be better for this field not to be in the comments at all or at least the admin to be able to disable it much easier - from backend?

The email acts as an identifier. And you want that if you want civilised conversations in your site. The email is used by K2's Akismet integration and is checked for validity when a comment is submitted.

There is no plan to remove it as such.

Additionally, it serves a purpose. The email field may not be publicly visible but it's there for custom plugins to utilize it, e.g. for new comment notifications.

There's always the option to just use a 3rd party comments extension or something like Disqus or Facebook Comments.
