strange Sef url in K2 items was created by Matteo Agostoni
Hello,
I have a strange issue with K2 sef url and Google Search Console.
I will try to explain.
Joomla: 3.9.18 (with Search Engine Friendly URLs + Use URL Rewriting)
K2: 2.10.3 (with Enable custom SEF settings for K2 URLs enabled)
I have Joomla site with some K2 articles representing products, organized in k2 categories.
Here part of the K2 categories structure:
Catalogues
--- Furniture
Furn01
Furn02
--- Electrical Tools
ETools01
ETools02
Ambienti
Promozioni
Inside Furn01, Furn02, ETools01, ETools02, Ambienti and Promozioni then I have K2 articles
Then, here the menus:
MENU_CATEGORIES_FURNITURE:
Furn01
Furn02
...
MENU CATEGORIES_ETOOLS:
ETools01
ETools02
...
MENU_PRODUCTS:
Furniture (Menu item type = Menu heading)
--- Furn01 (Menu item type = Menu item alias)
Prod01 (Menu item type = item)
Prod02 (Menu item type = item)
--- Furn02 (Menu item type = Menu item alias)
Prod03 (Menu item type = item)
Electrical Tools (Menu item type = Menu heading)
--- ETools01 (Menu item type = Menu item alias)
Prod04 (Menu item type = item)
Prod05 (Menu item type = item)
Prod06 (Menu item type = item)
--- ETools02 (Menu item type = Menu item alias)
Prod07 (Menu item type = item)
All tat said, now the sef url behaviour:
In search console I noticed in the report that shows all the url discovered and indexed by the crawler that I have these ones:
mydomain.it/it/Electrical Tools/ETools01/Prod04
mydomain.it/it/Electrical Tools/ETools01/Prod05
the previous ones are corrects and I understand how it is building them.
But the following ones are very strange; I don't understand why it is finding also these ones:
mydomain.it/it/Electrical Tools/ETools01/Prod04/ambiente-001 (where ambiente-001 is a K2 article in the category "Ambienti")
mydomain.it/it/Electrical Tools/ETools01/Prod04/ambiente-002 (where ambiente-002 is a K2 article in the category "Ambienti")
mydomain.it/it/Electrical Tools/ETools01/Prod04/ambiente-003 (where ambiente-003 is a K2 article in the category "Ambienti")
mydomain.it/it/Electrical Tools/ETools01/Prod04/promozione-001 (where promozione-001 is a K2 article in the category "Promozioni")
mydomain.it/it/Electrical Tools/ETools01/Prod04/autore/49-myauthor?start=70
mydomain.it/it/Electrical Tools/ETools01/Prod04/categoria/ambienti
How can fix them and avoid it find also these ones?
Kind regards,
Matteo

Please replace the file /components/com_k2/router.php with the one from jmp.sh/CZ2oMKG (that's from v2.10.2). The URL router in K2 v2.10.3 has a few bugs which will be sorted in K2 v2.10.4 (it will be shipped as "v2" of the Advanced SEF URLs router).

Hello Fotis,
I substituded the 2.10.2 file as you suggested.
Anyway if I try to browse to some of the "strange" urls, for example:
- mydomain.it/it/Electrical Tools/ETools01/Prod04/categoria/ambienti
- mydomain.it/it/Electrical Tools/ETools01/Prod04/ambiente-001
it does not give me an error 404, instead it shows a page, obviously with some layout errors.
I imagined it would have sent me error 404; why that urls are again considered valid?
kind regards,
matteo

Clear your caches first. The URLs will most likely be different.

Hello Fotis,
I purged all Joomla cache; I also cleared cache at Siteground account and also purged all the cached files in browser.
Even after these operation, if I browse to one of the strange urls, it does not respond me with error 404; instead it shows a page.
Any idea?
Where can I check k2 routing rules?
What can I check to start understanding why it is generating such strange urls?
Kind regards,
Matteo

Disable Advanced SEF in K2 and clear your Joomla cache and any SiteGround cache (e.g. Opcache/Memcached or others).
What happens to your URLs?

Hello Fotis,
disabling Advanced SEF in K2 worked fine.
Now if I try to browse to a strange url, it gives me error 404.
The other url works fine.
Thanks a lot,
Matteo

This is normal, but the "strange" URLs will not appear on any of your links either way. And if you're worried about Google and other search engines, they will probably flush these URLs from their index if there's no reference to them from your site.
