Very slow Simple Image Gallery PRO was created by asbjørn flø
I have a problem with long loading times with the “JoomlaWorks Simple Image Gallery PRO" Plugin v2.0.5 for Joomla! 1.5.x.” with Joomla Version 1.5.20.

When I enter one of my small Image Galleries with only 12 images, its quite fast (about 12 seconds), like in this one:
asbjornflo.net/en/art/everyday-filter/photos

But When I enter one of my larger Image Galleries with 46 images, its very slow (about 45-60 seconds), like in this one:
asbjornflo.net/en/art/norway-remixed/norway-remixed-photo

And in this large Image Gallery with 88 images, it’s even slower:
asbjornflo.net/en/art/erotogod/photos

When I return to these pages it’s very fast, I guess its cached in some way. But the next time I start my browser it’s just as slow as the last time.

Any help would be appreciated.

Best regards

As bigger is the gallery as lower will be the performance. This has nothing to do with the plugin but with your hosting services. However, did you set the plugin cache enabled?

Hi,

The "Thumbnail cache expiration time" in the plugin setting was set to 120.

So what you say is that it is my hosting services that makes my Image Galleries with 46 images be this slow (about 45-60 seconds loading time)?
By the way, the total size of this 46 image gallery is quite large, 38MB.
Is there a reason that it loads so fast the next time I access it before i close the browser (1-2 seconds loading time)?
is that some kind of browser cache?

Thanks for helping out!

I'm having this same performance issue.  My full size images are 1900px on the longest side (about 300-400k each).  Galleries that have only 60 or less images the load time is reasonable.  Galleries with over 100 images I get a exceeded 30 seconds time out error in sigpro.engine.php line 209.  Is there any way to have the plug-in just create the thumbs just once?  I have my cache set to 3600 so that the cached thumbs remain longer, but that doesn't help the larger galleries.  Also I've tried splitting up a larger gallery over several pages and just having say 24 images per page using Joomla's typical pagebreak, and having the images split up in separate folders for each page.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think the joomlaworks engineers will have to somehow realize that there are S3 buckets, cloudfront services, cloud systems around the world and that these issues with content delivery are more important now than ever, with the rise in internet activity.
I am using several slideshow delivery systems, SigPro being the one for easy to use inclusion into K2 articles. SigPro, and Slideshow pro, and other joomla slideshow systems are just riding a bubble right now...and that bubble will burst real quick when someone decides to put together a joomla slideshow that uses a cloudfront effectively.
If anyone knows of this S3 implementation from a joomla slideshow extension, please let me know...
I think the only thing available as a quick fix for issues like these large shows is a dedicated server, or hosting with a host that uses enterprise level 15k harddrives (scsi) such as Rochen, cloudaccess, or iredhost for UK....
Or, use "lightroom", export the slideshow to your desktop, upload to your S3 bucket, set the bucket for public use, establish a cloudfront, then go back to your site, setup the links to the cloudfront, then watch the playback in a modal pop-up...

Here is an example of this S3 slideshow setup...there are three links at the bottom of the page...
www.studiosevenpro.com/

But, it involves a great deal of manual setup to establish such a system...

I couldn't get the example s3 slideshows to work on my ipad ... is there a non-flash version of these available do you know?

No, sorry...maybe someday i will have the time to post other versions, but have not done that yet...do you agree with this non support of flash from the apple/mac products? Again, we the consumer, has to suffer the consequences of Big Business and their suppression of technology...the microsoft people had blocks on active-x because they felt there was a patent conflict, but they told us, the consumer, that it was a security issue!
Now, we have adobe and apple squabbling....

I'm really just interested in getting Simple Image Gallery PRO working and not so much interested in the slideshow stuff and/or cloud delivery.  I think the biggest sticking point is that the plug-in has to create the thumbs.  I just wish there was an option once you publish the initial gallery, thumbs would be created and only generated a second time if the article is modified and saved.

I guess I'm talking big picture and you're just talking thumbnails.

At james011,
thumbnails have a cache which means that they don't create every time you are open a gallery page.
