Hi,

We are building a site in Joomla 1.7:  174.121.56.248/~omnexhun

We have some problem with using Hungarian characters: as soon as we enter a word with a Hungarian characters such as é, á, ő, ú, ö, ü, ó,í or ű the title/description goes away. (UTF-8 decoding was used for the txt file.)

E.g.: please see the first two pictures of the Gallery on the bottom of this page: 174.121.56.248/~omnexhun/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=46&Itemid=53.

This is the corresponding labels.txt file:
174.121.56.248/~omnexhun/images/stories/kijelzo/hu-HU.labels.txt

Thanks,
Tom ???

Try stating the specific characters like à for à, etc. and save the file in UTF-8 format.

ps. You can consult the table of entities through this link www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_entities.asp

Hello Yiota, thanks for the suggestion. We will have several dozens of pictures requiring several hundreds of words in the titles and descriptions. Manually converting the Hungarian UTF-8 characters to ASCII appears to be less than impractical.

Can you possibly suggest something else? ???

As a alternative, I looked for UTF-8 to ASCII converter, but no luck.

Cheers

Hello,

We tried using the ISO 8859-1 Characters table on www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_entities.asp. It does work for the description, but doesn't seem to work for the titles.

Can you advise on this?
Example: please see bottom of the page: 174.121.56.248/~omnexhun/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=17:eberspacher-sutrak-autobuszklima&Itemid=6

This is the code in the labels file: 10AC_136_G3.jpg|m&aacute réb ö|<b>m&aacute rén &#246

Thanks a bunch!

The problem can be solved by using Akeeba Tools:
see details here: www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/admin-tools-the-quick-and-easy-way-to-database-collation-in-joomla/ [nofollow]

Thanks

(The solution was also posted in an other thread.)
