Great plugin, but... was created by Massimo Maccagno
Hi,
I really like this plugin, but it has a problem for me:
captions from txt seems not to support not-ASCII characters, and this is a PITA for not-English users like me.
If I put inside the file those characters (for example the Italian vowels àèìòù), the caption containing them dos not appear at all (it's empty), while if I use their HTML version (such as à è ì ò ù) the caption containing them does appear but it has them written as I wrote tham (for example, it shows "città" instead of "città").
Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't find how to solve this problem, that make me use this plugin only for my English pages instead of all of them.
I also have a feature request for next versions: is it possible to have an "include subfolder" option, so that if I check it, I get also the pictures in the subfolders of the selected folder?
TIA for your attention

Did you set your database collation to utf-8?

Yes, it's utf8_general_ci.
Your question sugested my a possible solution, so I told notebook to save-as my txt file as UTF-8: it solved the problem for some of the captions, but not for all.
So I used an advanced editor to manually convert to UTF-8 the lines containing the 'crtical' characters and this time it worked.

Ok, I think I get it.
Saving the text file as UTF-8 fix the problem for all the captions, BUT the FIRST one: if the txt file is utf-8, the first caption is not displayed (both if it has or it has not a not-ASCI character).
If I use an advanced editor to convert manually the lines with not-English characters, leaving the first line as it is, it works.

Hi Katia & Ccammagno,
I have been wrestling with the same problem as Ccammagno. Your conversation lead me to an info on Akeeba Tools: www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/admin-tools-the-quick-and-easy-way-to-database-collation-in-joomla/.
Do you know whether changing the database collection to utf8_unicode_ci solves the problem?
Would you recommend using Akeeba Tools?
Cheers,
Tom

Thanks for your follow-up, Katia.
I hope you guys find an easy way to fight-off the spammers. Makes me sick to see that they are ruining this valuable forum.
