Preview Mode: Amount of Thumbs was created by Zappu

I am just wondering if anybody has already requested or even has found a solution to display just an special amount of thumbs as a preview instead of showing all of them or just one. I would love to display just 3 or 4 previews and if you click to one of the thumbs the gallery slideshow should open.
