How can I integrate a gallery into an VirtueMart Product Description as it is promoted here www.joomlaworks.net/content/view/25/42/.

It does work in the articles.

Please answer, as I have purchased the product and it is not the free version.

You should enable the VirtueMart setting for rendering content plugins.

But there is an other issue now: I'm working on an 1.5 > 2.5 migration. The old SIG image-folder are still there including the label.txt. The captions do work on the 1.5 site but not on the 2.5. Why?

Try to delete the caption file from the gallery folder (of course you should take a backup first) and then reupload it.
