403 error in frontend, redirect to control panel in backend was created by Thomas Unterstaller
Hi folks!
I recently purchased SIG Pro and tried to upload a few images. I created a ZIP using the Windows7 "send to" dialogue.
The size of this ZIP is 23,1 MB, the given upload limit is 40 MB.
When I try to upload the ZIP via backend, it takes a few seconds and I get thrown back to the control panel. There is no error message even though I set the error messages display to "maximum".
If I do the same on the frontend, I get a 403 forbidden error. It seems to me that SIP Pro also tried to redirect me somewhere where the frontend account cant be redirected to.
I used the search ... couldn'd find anything like that.
Do you have any idea what could have gone wrong?
Thanks in advance!

Upgrade your joomla to 2.5.6.
In addition, install Admin Tools from www.akeebabackup.com/ in order to fix your permissions as they should be and then reinstall the extension.

Oh, Joomla always told me to be up to date...
Well, I updated Joomla, checked for the access rights to /cache (I had it set to 755 and 777) and reinstalled the plugin. I am sorry to say that the error persists :(
I then tried reducing the amount of images in the .zip one by one. 4 images (over 10 MB) just don't work. 3 images (about 9 MB) gets me a redirect to my home page (within the editor popup!) and no gallery is created. 2 images (6.5 MB) do work (!!) as does one image (about 2 MB).
This is strange - the plugin tells me that I can upload up to 40 MB. Anyway I find it strang that I get a broken redirect instead of an error message.
Is it possible that there are server restrictions in place? But then phoca gallery could process way more than 10 MB on the very same server...

You may probably need to increase your memory size limit in your server...

phpinfo tells me that I have a memory limit of 90 MB
...is this really not enough? It seems quite much to me!
Can I provide you with any more info that enables you to help me? Are there any other parameters that could be wrong? Is there a size limitation to the images?
I need SIG Pro and I dont want to write off on my 15 Euros...if that only works with two images, its of no use...
It's hard for me to accept that it should not work on my site just out of bad luck.

Pm me access to your backend as super admin please in order to verify that you have a memory size limit issue.

Okay, Katia helped me via PN...
The matter was that the "official" upload limit is not relevant - there is a certain (hidden) upload limit at which the plugin chokes.
If I reduce the size of all uploaded pictures, it works.
Hmm well at least it works, but I would have liked to know where the upload limit is exactly.
The problem there is that I need my users to upload photos and those users are not very tech-friendly. So I kinda hoped that they could just pack their photos into a .zip as they come from the memory card of their digicam. By default those files usually come at sizes of about 3 to 4 MB. As this is definitely way too much for the plugin on my server, they have to do the additional step of resizing those pictures which will be exactly too much work for them and then they won't upload anything very happily.
So I ask the team if you could tell me how much memory the plugin needs to work with certain image sizes. It may well be possible for me to increase the amount of memory. At present, hoewever, I do not know how much I am going to need...
