I've purchased and installed the SIG Pro mambot, set the gallery root to /images. I've put {gallery}dirname{/gallery} in my content item and then displayed that on the home page (once in the main body and also in a mod_contentitem).

Neither of them display. The rest of the content for each of those items displays.

I've got the SIG Pro published and I've tried each of the popup engines.

I've got 4 images in the directory, they just don't show up. Any thoughts as to what might be going wrong?

Try seeing if there are any errors in the server's logs.
Try putting {gallery}dirname{gallery} in to promote a visual error.
Try putting your pictures into just /images ie without dirname.
Try a ViewSource of the displayed page to see if any other JS is intruding.
