Filter the gallery view in backend was created by Rainer Kembügler
Hi,

I really love the image gallery but I do have an issue with the gallery display when choosing the correct gallery.
Since I am using JCE in addition I always use a separate Thumbnails folder. This is annoying as all folders are more or less shown double (real images and thumbnails).

I would love to have a filter option to filter out all "thumbnail" named folders.

Would be nice to get this with the next release.

Sure, that's not difficult to add.

Can you point me to any documentation on JCE for that, so I can see how it's configured?

Hi,

there is no specific topic in the JCE documentation .
This is a feature of the advanced image manager.

There is a configuration entry how to name the folder for image thumbnails.
The thumbnails can be used to show in an article. They are either generated during image upload or manually in the image selection dialog box.
Thumbnail folders are always subfolders of the original image folder.
Original-Image:
/images/folder1/imagexyz.jpg
Thumbnail:
/images/folder1/thumbnails/thumb_imagexyz.jpg

both folder name and file suffix can be individually set in the JCE configuration (profile definition -> Image manager extended). So I think the easiest would be a configuration option to filter out folders with a specific name (like "thumbnails").

This would lead to a more comprehensive folder overview. Simple Image gallery Pro is great but I also need the JCE images in articles. And I am sure I am not the only one.

Best regards
Onki

You said "There is a configuration entry how to name the folder for image thumbnails." So the thumbnails folder is configurable in which case it would require input from the admin in SIGPro's settings to exclude the configured thumbnails folder name in JCE.

On a sidenote, why would someone utilize SIGPro galleries with JCE at the same time? I mean, if you display your images using SIGPro, what's the point in creating additional thumbnails via JCE? Are you perhaps re-using a couple of images from the gallery, resized so they are smaller in size and to fit your content (thus the JCE thumbnails)?

Hi,

This is eaysily described. I use thumbnail images in the articcle overview (native Joomla function tab "Images and Links") and on some articles I also add single Images with popup for optical reasons (otherwise there would be too much text without images).
The JCE thumbnailing is very nice and I haven't seen a similar function in native Joomla.
Therefore I use both, gallery and single images in my articles.
On small articles with only 2-3 images sometimes showing single images is more useful so there are many reasons to use both.
Multiple entries for filtering would be great as I also have some uploaded webcam images in my image folder that shouldn't be listed in the gallery overview. And last but not least the Joomla default images (sampledata) that come back almost after every update.

Best regards
Onki

Then to make things easier, I'll just a add an option to specify folder names to exclude when SIGPro scans your galleries' root path.

I think this is the easiest and most versatile solution.
So if I enter "thumbs" there all foldere with this name will not be listed in the gallery overview.

Another thing. I like the possibility to enter titles and descriptions in the gallery to be shown on the preview /slideshow images.
At the moment I basically use the same label for title and description.

Would it make sense to add a config switch to enter only a title and use this as description as well if the description field is empty?

Best regards
Onki

Since this is an edge case, I think it's more appropriate to use a custom gallery layout (in your template's /html folder - see the MVC templating section in SIGPro's documentation), replacing the description with the title.
