SIG failure to work inside another component? was created by Christian Ewertsen
Hi all,

I am desperately looking for help with a problem I have just encountered. I need to have SIG running inside another component – QPersonel – which is a small and pretty simple thing, but it does what I need it to do, and therefore I love it.

However, Simple Image Gallery refuses to display inside this component and end up having just the syntax showing on my site instead.

I have of course tested that everything works as it should elsewhere on my site, and it does.

No problems, if I just include SIG in a content item. ( EXAMPLE HERE )
But when I include it into QPersonel it fails to display. ( EXAMPLE HERE )

I have set up this sandbox on my site for testing this and I have tried loads of things to gat it to work, but all to no avail. I really hope somebody will be able to help me with this as it is of major importance to me, that I get this working soon. Any feedback will be much appreciated.

(Ps.: This is the licensed version of SIG)

Thanks in advance for any help!

The plugin of SIG (and SIG Pro of course) works with the default content component of joomla and with K2 component of Joomlaworks (both content managers). The component you are using has nothing to do with the content and the plugin cannot parse inside it. It's like a 2 different mechanisms which you try to bind together. It cannot work I'm afraid.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, even if it's not a very uplifting one.
:)

I was hoping it could maybe be done by hacking the code of QPersonel in some way, maybe including the mechanism of SIG in the html-files of it or something, so it would then be triggered and run when QPersonnel runs.

Do you think that is possible?

Thanks again for your time.

You could ask the QPersonnel team to make the component able to parse plugins to do so. Otherwise it can't be done. I'm sorry.

Hi Yiota,

Thanks for your reply.

I understand why you would suggest that, but with all due respect for the people who made QPersonel, I doubt that would lead to anything.

The level of English in the component was so bad that I have been forced to translate the entire component (including the core files) myself, piece by piece in order to get it where I want it to be. The native language of the developers is Turkish, which I unfortunately do not master.

So I’m not even sure how I’d go about explaining my problem to them.
:-\

That’s also why I chose to give it a try here on your forum instead, even if I was sure already from the beginning that the problem was with QPersonel and not with SIG.

Anyway, thanks again for your time and your answers. If you or anybody else have any ideas as to what I could do (maybe even a different approach all together) I’d be happy to hear about it.

Basically I want to turn QPersonel into a biography for actors and display a small image gallery below each entry, using something nice as SIG. I have been searching all over the place for a real biography-component that could do this, but so far I haven't found any.

Therefore I started this project of making it myself. But maybe I should have tested SIG inside the component before spending so much time on it. That's a lesson learned.
;)

Cheers.

Hi again,

I have been trying to get some help from the people at QPersonel, but no luck. Seems their forum is not viewed by many and no reply on direct contact either.

Can anyone help me with this parsing-thing? How is this done? Is it difficult to do? I'd be happy if someone could maybe give me a hint on where to look for this or show an example of a component that does this already, so I could look further into it on my own.

Thanks in advance for any help.
:)
