[Solved] Different Cache problem was created by cantthinkofanickname
I have browsed the cache posts but not found this problem.

I am finding the front End display of our galleries often comes up with the list of all the gallery images saying that the file is not writeable. I have set the cache folder to write and that shows in the system settings as such.

When this occurs I have to go to the website and select all the files in the cache (some 100 of them) and change their permissions from 644 to 646 to get them to display. My cache time is set to 120.

Can anyone help as to why and on how to solve this?

Are you refering to the joomla! site cache or to the plugin cache?

I am refering to the Joomla! cache folder public_html/cache. I have the plugin cache setting set to 120. I assume that this means the Joomla! cache will be cleaned by the plugin after 2 hours. Is that right?

My other settings in config. are SEO - all "on", Cache - off (if I turn this on this gives me menu problems).

I did not know there was a plugin cache folder. Should I do something about this?

Check SIG Pro parameters (cache, debug mode etc) and try to change them to see if you have a better result.

To help me rsolve this with my hoster can you tell me:

1. Is the "cache" setting refering to the website cache folder?

2. I notice that when I clear the public_html cache all the sigPro files dissappear and when I refresh the gallery page they all reappear with 644 permissions. Is this right?

Thanks

Thanks, The problem turned out to be something with permissions on the server. When the files in the cache were recreated they were 644 but could not be written to by the program because the server which runs a cron script to change ownership hadn't run thus disallowing permissions changing. I contacted the support and they made some corrections. Sorry but that's the best explanation I can give. It works now anyway. On to other problems ...
