Image Upload - Usability. Image Ordering was created by sigpro_firsttry
Dear forum-members, dear JW-Team,

first: Thank you for SIG and K2! Great extensions.
SIG works nice regarding displaying images.

But we have 3 BIG problems:
1) Upload-engine: When a frontend user tries to upload an image gallery we only see one option: zip-upload - no jpg upload!
We searched the forums up and down and didn´t find a solution.

In terms of usability we strongly need a better upload-engine like java-engine.
Most of our users even don´t know what a zip-file is.

2) Image ordering: We don´t see a way, that our users can order the display of their images.
Odering images during article creation is very important. In most cases, our users must be able to sort the images to display in a correct order.
Think of a product catalog or a vacancies album. An unordered image gallery is like viewing a movie in unchronologic snippets. It doesn´t make much sense.

3) Image captions: We need the users to write image-captions during gallery-creation. The .txt-file option is only for admins.

Are there any plans for a useable image upload-engine and ordering feature?

Regarding these issues, please have a look at Simgallery. In Terms of usebility (upload/ordering/captions) it rocks.

Thanks for every hints or other help!

Best Regards.

Hi Katia,

Thanks for this answer as it´s the best i could imagine.

To be realistic: When is the next release of SIG Pro planned?

I am happy to stay informed whether the described issues will be fixed in next release as we can not decide on using K2 (with SIG) for our project without this information.

Thank you and best regards.

The changes you recommend are only for K2. SIG Pro is the "gallery" player so to speak. There are plans in K2 for better gallery flexibility already ;)

Dear Katia,

after waiting for about 7 months i am now very curious to know about any improrements regarding image- upload and handling and ordering in SIG PRO.
(especially in conjunction with k2)

You mentioned that there are plans to improved these issues.
So how is the progress with this?

- When will SIG Pro support bulk image uploads in frontend (e.g. ajax/ flash) without firstly creating a zip file of all images?
- When will you mention, that there currently is no other way to upload a bulk of images in frontend than making a zip of the images?
- When will we be able to order the images in frontend?
- When will we be able to set image- captions for uploaded images in frontend?

Thanks.

I second that ;)

Love both K2 and SIGPRO, but uploading in a Zip file and no way to add custom text (besides the existing way) makes publishingarticles and using SIGPOR a little bit unproductive.

I also would strongly sugest that there will be a way to select a specific upload directory other than the one that is set up in the Plugin itself. We have lots of categorys and I like my page to stay organized, so puting all Images in one directory (zip upload) does not look to pretty....

otherwise it all works like a charm :)

I thought I would resurrect this post as addresses all my issues, I see this thread is over 2 years old and no progress, Is it Simple as in Simon or Ease of Use as mentioned in the Product Description. Or is it a case of using Apple Mentality "do it Our way or the Highway" Surely after over 2 years of requests and so called improvements, we would be able to edit .txt files in the front-end of both in my case K2 or Joomla.

Whats the point of automatically creating Caption Files that Front End Users can't Edit, Even if it's too hard to implement it in an attractive and yes Simple! to use addition to the already existing K2 Image Gallery Interface, surely you could add a fourth option in the plugin to Show No Captions Unless Caption File exists (where no automatic file is created but can be uploaded in Zip file)

Simple Image Gallery Pro (currently in final stages of development) brings such features and not only to K2.

Compatible for both Joomla! 1.5 and 2.5.

Expect updates very soon ;)

Dear JW-Team,

I want to allow my users to upload their own pictures in the galleries. I create galleries and any registered user can add one or more pictures into it.
I use Joomla 2.5.6, K2 2.5.7 and SIG Pro.
So, any authorised user can post new article or article + gallery as ZIP file. But also if user wants to upload a pic in a certain gallery (which already exists) he may use "Image" button (see attached screenshot) and upload any picture into '/imades/..' directory. So, the new picture will appear in the gallery.
It is easy and good! But I think it's a bug at the same time. Because I'm afraid some users may use my galleries in a bad way :)
So I need a pre-moderation, like for new articles in K2. How can I do it? How can I allow my users to upload their pics in the galleries and protect my website?
