I have used SIG in many sites before and never faced any trouble with it. I created a new template that is based on the twitter bootstrap template and SIG does not work on this site. The page links is this: demo.signumsol.com/esurveying/index.php/screenshots

Folks, I have an update.

I was using the plug in this way:

On a single page I had three instances of the plugin each referring to a different folder. One of the instances was referring to a folder, that did not have images yet. Once I put the images in the folder, all the instances of the plugin started working fine.

Strange, but I am happy it is working now.
