My gallery is working fine, the thumbnails show up and images load, however they load in a new window and there is no popup. I've tried every version of jQuery listed in the plugin parameters, so I'm wondering if there is some sort of conflict happening. Is it possible an extension conflict could break the popup engine?
Micman described my issue perfectly. Did anyone solve this particular issue yet?
I'm helping out a school, their simple image gallery can be found here: bit.ly/114ItZb
Must add that they're still on Joomla 1.5 and that I am using Chrome as my main browser.

There is definitely a JavaScript conflict for that result. You, too, have tried to disable jQuery through the plugin parameters like @micman?

Yes, I have have disabled jQuery, to no avail. I even installed JoomlaWorks "Simple Image Gallery" Plugin v2.2 for Joomla! 1.5 with the same results. Pictures open in a new tab. Is this JavaScript thingy something I could take up with the hosting company?

Probably the javascript that the module "mod_swmenufree" is using. Try disabling it and check again.

I disabled the module "mod_swmenufree" and the Simple Image Gallery problems disappeared. . .
So now I have to go look for another image gallery plugin and/or another menu module. The never-ending quest goes on!
Thanks for your diagnosis!

I've disabled all modules like DJ-ImageSlider and Superfish and even checked the source code only to see that it is the Simple Image Gallery loading a series of jquery scripts (each thumbnail present on the page).
I even went so far as to disable jQuery from loading in the plugin and am at my wits end trying to figure this out because the plugin is still loading multiple instances of jQuery.
I've cleared my browser cache and my Joomla cache, still presented with the same problem of not being able to load the thumbnails in a popup window.
Suggestions?
Joomla 2.5
Simple Image Gallery 3.0.0
P.S. I would prefer to get this to work in a module rather than an article. Any clues on how I can accomplish this?

I'm having the same problem at a site of a client. Version 3.0 of the plugin opens the thumbnail in a new window in stead of in a popup. The old version doesn't have this problem. Don't use the mod swmenufree.
Example of the page at : thomasjansenduurzaamontwikkelen.nl/projecten/81-tuinen.html
Could use some help here.

One solution would be using SIG PRO.
SIG Pro has many pop up engines to select from in order to avoid such conflicts.

I went to Component -> swMenuFree and selected yes on the disable jquery link option. This solved all of my problems. Hope this helps.
