Thumbnails blank tried all suggested remedies was created by Peter Barfield
OK Have installed version 3 JW_SIG plugin I have not been able to get thumbnails to show.
I have checked permissions all ok. - done!
cache changes via .htaccess mentioned in forum - done!
used admintools to fix permission - done!
Checked naming conventions etc as mentioned in posts - done!
So does any one have any other suggestions. This is really a common issue it seems and no one seems to be able to put a finger on it to any great degree.
The biggest issue for me is that I won't buy a pro version until I can see that this works efficiently (as i am sure it will once i get this issue sorted.) I have been "burnt" too many times with purchasing joomla components etc without testing them first.
So lets cross the old fingers and see what canbe sorted. :)

Katia here is the link and also a reply from my web hosting provider in relation to the issue.

Hello Peter,
I've checked your website source code.
Your images path is src="www.getwise2it.com/plugins/content/jw_sig/jw_sig/includes/images/transparent.gif", it is 1x1 white pixel, so your images displayed as blank. These images have a href attribute which specifies the link's destination for example to www.getwise2it.com/images/sig/M4%20Ovation/p17s4t8n1c14ucu461udhmk159i6.jpg. So your images do not have valid src path.
I'm afraid there is nothing we will be able to do - you will need to contact script developer for assistance.
Should you need additional assistance, have further questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

You need to check the permissions also for the subfolders located in the cache folder, specifically for the jw_sig folder.

Yiota, thank you for the reply. As I have previously stated I have checked all these permissions and they are to the best of my knowledge appear fine and in accordance with what has previously been suggested. I am at a complete loss on this and it is extremely frustrating.
Any other ideas
Cheers

Please install Admin Tools from www.akeebabackup.com/ in order to fix your permissions as they should be and then reinstall the extension.

As you can see here:
getwise2it.com/product-galleries/cache/jw_sig/jw_sig_cache_0ca0cf9912_p17s4t8n1c14ucu461udhmk159i6.jpg
the cache is not accessible.
Admin Tools can fix any read/write "file" permissions on your site, to what they should be. But, if your server's "owner" permissions for files are not properly setup, in other words, if Joomla cannot perform read/write operations via PHP, then it will not work properly. Either enable the Joomla! FTP layer or better still, contact your hosting company and ask them to fix any "owner" related permission issues.

I have tried admintools to no avail as I have previously said. Guess this is just in the too hard basket for everyone. Pity I really liked the look of this product.

No, the problem is not related to paths.
Either you have permissions issue or you use special characters in the names of your images (like #,@.%, caps letters etc).

Katia,
I am Now at my wits end. Firstly I have for the purposes of testing theories set all permissions for cache and simple image gallery to 777 and sub folders to 777. Done
I have contacted host about permissions and these they assure me are fine. I tend to agree with that as every other aspect of joomla is working fine. unlike what Fotis suggested
If the above doesn't fix your problem, then you are facing the second case as described above (owner permission issues). In that case you need to contact your hosting company and ask them to correct owner permissions for your Joomla! site or your entire hosting account. If your hosting company refuses to do that, know that Joomla! won't operate properly on your server (updates, new extensions, file uploads etc.). In that case, you should strongly consider changing hosting companies. We recommend the following hosting companies:
i.e. all extensions updates & file uploads are fine and this aspect of joomla works fine.
So as has been said before on the forum. Logic would lead me to think this is a problem with simple image gallery and not joomla and not a permissions issue.
So where too from here?.
As I have said before I would consider the pro edition but I am glad at present I havent spent any coin on it yet.
cheers
