SIG is my go to plug-in to make it easy to add galleries.

My latest project requires responsive design and while the lightbox is responsive, the thumbnail gallery display is not.

Has anyone managed to get the thumbnail display to work responsively?

Looks like the forum only has a lot of questions, and mostly jQuery related issues are treated by moderators. How do we override the px settings into % ??

You need to override the template. You can find more info here about overriding here: www.joomlaworks.net/docs/simple-image-gallery

As for replacing px with % I strongly recommend using a grid system (replacing the default CSS classes).
I personally recommend ZURB's foundation and it's block grid:  foundation.zurb.com/docs/components/block-grid.html
