Changing background colour was created by GeorgeC
I'm very happy with Simple Image Gallery, it does exactly what I want. However, it works just fine on a white background and now I want to use it on a dark blue background, or even a background image. Then it looks terrible! Because the layout colours are integrated in the sig plugin I cannot change these with the usual css. It affects the image border colour, the background colour and the shadow. Who knows a solution to accomodate the sig layout to the template in use?

Hello George,

You can achiece this by CSS. Please read the documentation and the "MVC TEMPLATING: THE POWER TO CUSTOMIZE YOUR GALLERY LAYOUT"

www.joomlaworks.net/docs/simple-image-gallery

If you are using multiple coloured backgrounds on your site, you can set a page suffix and use this to specify your CSS code.

Thank you krikor. I'm not familiar with MVC, but I will try with the info of the documentation. I will need some time. Also the page suffix is new to me, but I will need it because I have multiple coloured backgrounds.
Thanks!

Page suffix is indeed a life saver when you have multiple layouts.

Let me know when you need any additional assistance.

Hi krikor,
I have tried to follow your tip and followed the instructions, but without success. Probably I missed something. This is what I did:
In the Joomla structure (Joomla v2.5) I found the plugin folder: /plugins/content/jw_sig/jw_sig/tmpl.
(Note that it is not  jw_simpleImageGallery, but jw_sig)

My template has the following structure:
/templates/mytemplate/
/css
/images
/html  (I added this folder as in the instruction)

I copied the folder /tmpl into the folder /html

I renamed the new folder /tmpl to /jw_sig.

I don't see any differences in the layout or colours. I even tried to rename to /jw_simpleImageGallery.
Do I have to specify some id or class maybe? I appreciate your help very much.
Merry Christmas!

The correct folder path should be:

/templates/YOURJOOMLATEMPLATE/html/jw_sig/SIG_TEMPLATE_NAME eg:
/templates/YOURJOOMLATEMPLATE/html/jw_sig/Classic

and you should edit the css files located at:

/templates/YOURJOOMLATEMPLATE/html/jw_sig/Classic/css/template.css

Thank you for pointing that out. We will update our documentation as well :)

Hi krikor,
I think I found it! I copied the Classic folder into the /mytemplate/html/jw_sig folder. In the Classic folder I found a file template.css. In this file I found the following settings that could be modified:

Under /* Thumbnail */ I found background: #fff. I found out that I could modify the colour to my own background colour, and even that I could change it to none, which makes it transparent. This was very welcome because I have a second image page with a picture as background.

Under /* width:33%; to force columns */ on the second line I found
border:1px solid  #ccc; Here I could modify the border width and colour.

I didn't find a possibility to modify the size of the space between the images and their borders.

Unfortunately these modifications make that the simple image gallery isn't so simple anymore.
I'm very happy with the solution, although I don't understand how it all works.
Isn't there a possibility for a command like
{gallery}picture/mypath/myfolder;background:#112233{/gallery} ? That should be nice!

I have two image pages in my site, on both I wanted to use simpel image gallery. Both pages have their own template with different background colours. So I copied the Classic folder to both templates. Therefore it was not necessary to use the page suffix.

Thanks for your help and Happy New Year!
