1. I am unable to locate the file mentioned in the following documentation.

"Default caption (label) handling" in the plugin parameters and the required xx-XX.labels.txt file (where xx-XX is your site's default language locale) for each gallery will be automatically generated with some sample text in."

2. I would only like to provide description at the 'Single thumbnail' level .. not for individual pictures.. Could you show some pointers for this swell.

Regarding your questions:

1. The labels file is generated by the extension when you enter the desired captions in the administration area. The file is stored in the gallery directory.

2. There is no separate description for that. You need to add the description for the thumbnail that is displayed.

Where is this gallery directory? in the media folders? I can't find any such file in this folder ..I checked the backed directories as well

The gallery directory is defined in the settings page of the extension. Go to the settings page and see the current value. K2 galleries are an exception, they are always stored under media/k2/galleries .
