As you can imagine i can't show thumbnails by simple image gallery.

I read many posts, all of them regarding permission issues but i can't resolve by changing them.

I have installed joomla 1.5, GD enabled and set permission to 755 (i also tried 777) on showthumb.php, on the images, and in every file and directory of the site!

I have this hosting: www.aruba.it and this is the link to the gallery (the article called gallery): www.lisolachenoncera.org/site/.

I'm also having a problem with the thumbnail generation for Simple Image Gallery. I have checked the permissions for showthumb.php, the folder it's in and eventually all the other folders in the whole webapp. I've also made sure the path to the Joomla temp folder is accessible with the correct permissions. The permissions I have tried for all the above alternatives are 755 and 777. GD is installed and verified.

I have a fresh install of joomla which I'm testing see details below:
I have installed simple image gallery and have the blank thumbnails problem (which function)
Have read every single post and tried all the permissions etc solutions...
Simply CANNOT get it to work...
I'm on localhost and cannot give a link to the site yet - but will probably try other photo gallery extentions.

I will have a test site up soon.

My original photos uploaded to media center were 800x600 px and approx 80Kb and example name "vga00150.jpg"
Also changed the image files to permission 777 before uploading.
I have no other extensions installed other than default joomla...

Solved...

On my Linux machine went to add/remove software and installed

php-gd module
Restarted httpd service

Everything works perfectly now!

PS: I had to install phoca gallery to realise the problem - phoca had great documentation and trouble shooting articles. Having said that I do like the simplicity of SIG and will road test it some more.

VERY surprised that the specifics of this php addon requirement are not documented here?
