Images shown in a new browser window (checked on IE and Firefox). in the original browser window it remains a nice white square (probably in attempt to open light-box), but then its transfered to a new window. Any help on this topic? pls?

I have the same problem. Images are shown in a new browser window, not in a Lightbox.

You probably have a conflict with another script in your site. I would suggest you to use SIG PRO which has many pop up engines to select in order to avoid such problems.
