When a user logs in with their social network such as facebook, do they get put into the default k2 user group set in the parameters in K2? my problem with other social connect integrations is that they don't get put into any user group (left blank) , and since I also use OSE membership since they are not part of any user group they do not get proper permissions.

Yes SocialConnect will add the user to the default K2 user group if the user is not assigned already to a K2 user group.

Regarding your second question, no they do not get any kind of email. This cannot be done in any case, since these accounts do not have a password, they are authenticated by a third party service ( Facebook, Twitter, etc ) .
