its working on contact form but not showing up on blogs....
if i enable in comments it doesnt show but has error 'wrong input/something like that"

I am using Google recaptcha which worked with contact form.

First of all you need to update both your K2 and Joomla versions to the latest.

Now, when you say you are using the Google recaptcha I believe you mean the one from Users Configuration, right?

my admin back end says everything is up to date :(

yes users config. Plugin manager ......followed many many different configuration advise...

The latest Joomla! version is 2.5.17 and the latest K2 version is 2.6.7.

I think that in the latest version of Joomla! they have updated the recaptcha file under plugins/captcha/recaptcha which is used for the contact and registration forms and it contained false google links.

my guess is i have to manually update because its saying no updates....

Try to clean your site's cache and check again under the Joomla! Update.
You can also try switching back and forth the options in the joomla updater in order to get the latest 2.5.17.

Either make a manual update (don't forget to take a backup first) to the latest joomla version or check the file under plugins/captcha/recaptcha of the 2.5.17 version to see the changes it contains in order to put them in your 2.5.9 version of the file.

This might not work properly though so I don't recommend it.

i am total novice and if you don't recommend i wouldn't even attempt it lol


i set my own site up over the years i learned and have a business site on joomla...cant afford to loose it as we all know takes weeks to recover from a disaster.....must be a simpler way to block spam on my blogs....

just frustrating with joomla with all there updates and versions ...

You can try to update that file only. The changes are in the recaptcha paths for google. The only way it can go wrong is in the plugin. If you notice anything strange just disable it or undo your changes.

Not three. There is only one file that needs to be changed. That one is the recaptcha.php file.

didnt work ...cleaned cache tried different computer , browsers.....

Try to enable repatcha both in your comments and the plugin and let me know so I can check again in your page.

Did you update the recaptcha.php file with the one provided in the 2.5.17 joomla version?
Also, did you update your K2 with the latest version?

didn't update K2 not an option in admin area backend......have to find info on that :( "newbie"

The path to the google recaptcha in the file is still the old one. Check if the file I have attached is the same with your own in plugins/captcha/recapthca/recaptcha.php
