If you are using Joomla! 3.2 you need to update K2 with the SVN version which is compatible and includes fixes. You can download it through getk2.org/assets/get/

Yes I have done that. Still doesn't make any difference to this issue though.c

There is no K2 Content Menu type. Do you mean K2 Category? If you do, then there is an option to override the Ordering through the menu item. It is under Options tab
"Layout options for single category selection". Do you have anything filtered through there?
