The problem is I don't want them by category.

I want to order them no matter their category (that's why I featured them).

Then you should try another approach.
Use a K2 Content module instead which offers the ability to manually select which items to show and on which position.

Hi, I'm a bit confused. I really need to have a list of featured items displayed in the frontpage ordered by hand by me. To do so, I have created a K2 category menu item (Screenshot 1), then I have set some items from different cats as featured and manually ordered, but each time I change ordering of items, the order messes up!. I think that in reply #124402 Yiota said that featured items ordering was possible, just as Joomla featured items ordering behaves, not taking into aaccount item cat.

Is that possible?

Try assigning some categories to the menu item.
Then in the K2 items list, filter the items by featured and try to order them.

Hi Krikor, thanks for the hint, but still no luck! Selected all cats in K2 in menu item, reordered content items in K2 admin but the order got lost after reloading the page...see screenshot for menu item config

Check your browser's developer tools and especially the network tab.
There is a request being made when you reorder. What is its response.
Furthermore a version of Additional Categories for K2 produced errors for some users, are you using this extension?
