How to translate the captions the photo gallery?

You are obviously using the Highslide popup engine.

Download the latest version here: highslide.com/highslide/highslide-full.js

Copy this file inside the plugin's highslide folder located at: /plugins/content/jw_sigpro/jw_sigpro/includes/js/highslide/ (in Joomla! 1.7) or /plugins/content/jw_sigpro/includes/js/highslide/ (in Joomla! 1.5).

In there, delete highslide-full.packed.js and rename highslide-full.js to highslide-full.packed.js.

Now open the file highslide-full.packed.js and find the related navigation messages in the first few rows (inside quotes). Translate those to your language and save the file. That's it.
