ok then i must be doing something wrong

what is the procedure for doing this. is it as follows?

step 1 add images to a zip file (jpg, png)
step 2 create a new item in k2
step 3 select zip file from desktop using the image gallery tab in k2
step 4 save the K2 item to a category (in my case: family blog)
step 5 smile as you view your new image gallery :)

i think I must be doing something wrong

Yes the procedure is correct.

Be sure that the images and the zip file don't have any spaces to the filename, or any special characters and that the extension .jpg is not written in capital letters or as .jpeg.
