Have a look at this fantastic News portal By www.GAVICK.com... USES K2 2.5 beta... The Template is fully customized and compatible with Joomla 1.7...

So Warrick... Which should I dive into tommorow: Zoo or Seblod?

O.K last chance for K2.
I am now able to use Zoo and Seblod. I am going to attempt to move a site from J1.5 to J1.7 using the K2 2.5 beta cck. One problem I have right away is does anyone have a fix for AllVideos ?
Does any of the die hards out there know if :-
The SIG pro is working?
Does anyone have a fix for AllVideos ?
I know there will be work involve but once the site is done I will have a Zoo, K2 and Seblod version. I will then compare but if I can't get K2 to work well then it will be a 2 horse race.

I currently have a small site that needs a relatively quick turn-around so I think I will use ZOO.
But I also have another bigger project too that has a larger demand (and thankfully) no specific deadline so I may try and crack that on with Seblod, after reading the thread and your comments here it seems a little meatier.

Seblod is flippin hard to get my head around. Though it looks like a good one to stick with as support is present and tutorials are becomming available. The forms I built need lots of work. This one is definately one to learn and stick with for the long term
Zoo works well just need to follow the tutorials really well. Did the job but is hard to style unless you build your own templates. The support is a bit like K2 as you have to pay a subscription to post on their forum and I have been told thats not good either.
In a utopian world I would use K2 for quick smaller sites and Seblod more complexed site. Seblod is still a RC and will be a few months before the stable version comes out. Seblod team are going to make it more user friendly as soon as the stable version is released. That said there are already people using this on their sites.
If you need a solution now Zoo was the easiest to learn and implement but I would still rather have K2!

Just to let the community know K2 is now a Release Candidate. I just went to the download section and found the SVN is no longer a beta.
If anyone knows what is going on with AllVideo please let us know! Maybe someone has a solution?
Thanks

The embed code will work and display in k2 items, but the other features are not showing up.

it just seemed like an ad as it's not really relevant (other than K2 apparently works).(I think) most people here are able to create or modify templates... It's K2 we want and we want it to work in J1.7 as well or better than it did in Joomla 1.5 regardless of the template...
However, you have my apologies if you felt i was harsh :-)

Download K2 v2.5 (RC) for Joomla! 1.5/1.6/1.7
but the file it links to is still K2_SVN.zip - exactly the same one.
Please let me know that I'm wrong and should be looking elsewhere for the RC :(

So it should be Seblod but I don't even know how to start with it - it's kinda overwhelming.
I'll probably be forced in the end to turn a blind eye at Joomla 1.6 / 1.7, try and replicate its extended functionality using 1.5 + lots of 3rd party extensions, and hope for the best with 1.8... 6 months from now???

I guess I'm going to have to take a look at Seblod although lack of time may make that an impossible challenge

K2 main force must be its loyal user base, really supportive, as your very message proves :) and that is currently not happening with Zoo due to their absurd paywall forum policies. And the official Joomla forums don't help either, mostly you get "go and ask at Zoo's forums" kind of answer.

Seblod videos to start the learning process. Zoo support might be bad but the documentation is good enough to get you going.

The problem with Seblod is that it suffers from the same restrictions as Joomla does when it comes to categorising content, ie you cannot have an item in multiple categories etc etc. You can do this with ZOO and K2
I did some searches and it seems there are workarounds at the moment and proper support is planned for 2.0 final. Correct me if I'm wrong, folks.

ZOO was not even an option until recently in my book as it did not have front end edition. It now does, although the implimentation is wierd. A user can only edit their own submissions. I have posted a modification that sorts this out in the forum. But (& this is the biggest problem with ZOO) it took me days to work out how to do it and I got ZERO help from ZOO despite being a paid member.
Damn, I wish I had known you posted about that! I just posted my own solution to the Joomla forums today. I also fixed their frontend pagination bug and all this together took me only a couple of hours even though I'm not a proper PHP coder. A GREP-like program that can search through the whole Zoo-folder tree works miracles in figuring out what you need to edit. I hope this was the last time I have to hack on Zoo.

But it can't be used for production sites. I hope the team will soon release the definitive version!
In the meantime i've made the migration from joomla 1.5 + k2 2.4 to Joomla! 1.7 + k2 2.5 RC
I'm going to write how i made the upgrade (the italian version of the guide is ready, i've to translate it to english!).
